Daytona 500 - 2002
Daytona:
What a crazy and exciting finish at the Daytona 500 this year! Lot's of accidents which drivers blamed on new aerodynamics rules by NASCAR. Despite all this Ward Burton won the 3 lap dash to the finish line with some luck! Burton said, "You got to be there in the end. We were trying to be careful. I didn't know if we were going to win it, but I knew we were going to have a hell of chance at it." This was Burtons fourth victory in 251 starts. Burton averaged 142.971 mph to give Dodge its first victory since 1974.
A wild week at the 500! #22 takes the checkered flag. Next up: Bike week!

JR's Words of Wisdom:
Don't get out of your car to make repairs during the red flag!

Sterling Marlin should of won this race. With six laps to go, Marlin spun out Jeff Gordon and beat Burton back to the yellow flag. NASCAR stops the race to clear the crash and Marlin jumps out of his car to check the damage to his front right fender. This costly mistake sent him to the back of the line and Marlin finished in a disappointing eight place. Sterling had received much hate mail and death threats from many who blamed him for Dale Earnhardt's death last year.

JR chillin with #9...
apparently JR's detailing for the Dodge team made a difference for #22!
